  • Recipient of Cultural Olympiad Regional Designation Award in the Arts from 1994 Atlantic Committee for the Olympic Games.
  • University of Kentucky Business and Economic Research Department completes study of impact of craft on Kentucky economy.
  • Recipient of second Appalachian Regional Commission grant.

  • Kentucky played leading role in Year of American Craft.
  • Transitions '93, a unique, one-of-a-kind craft exhibit premiered at annual craft market.

  • Tenth-year anniversary of Kentucky Craft Marketing Program; reorganized within the Education, Arts, and Humanities Cabinet.

  • Kentucky Legislature dissolved Department of the Arts.

  • "Kentucky Crafted" advertising campaign begun.

1985

  • Kentucky section premiered at American and International Craft Division of the New York International Gift Fair.
  • Grant from Appalachian Regional Commission funded 1985 study of state's craft industry. Results of study responsible for:
    1. Creation of Governor's Craft Council;
    2. Craft Business Development and Loan Program;
    3. Increased promotion of crafts through the Commerce Cabinet via state park gift shops and welcome centers;
    4. Program markets under Tourism Cabinet's "Pure Kentucky" slogan.

1984

  • Kentucky crafts featured at Takashimaya, Japan's leading department store chain.

1983

  • Over 500 Kentucky Craftspeople located and published in a directory.
  • Technical workshops initiated.

  • The first Kentucky-based wholesale market held in March at the Kentucky Horse Park.
  • Jury process utilized to establish quality standards.
