FRANKFORT,
Ky. -- The Kentucky Craft Marketing Program (KCMP) recently accepted craftspeople
(listed below by County) into the Program at the annual June 2001 jury
session, conducted by a panel of out-of-state craft professionals.
One of the new craftspeople accepted,
Laura Brewer, said, "I am honored to be included in this Program. I have
attended Kentucky Crafted: The Market and was very impressed with the
quality of the products there. To be associated with those craftspeople
will be a great benefit to my business."
Bobby Lykens, another newly-juried
member, was also inspired to submit his product after attending last year's
Kentucky Crafted: The Market. " I was surprised at the master craftsmanship
that went into the products being displayed at The Market. This encouraged
me to submit my work, and we hope to be able to enter into a new career,
with the help of the Craft Marketing Program."
Juried members have an opportunity
to participate in wholesale and retail venues, such as the New York International
Gift Fair; Kentucky Crafted: The Market; Governor's Derby Breakfast; and
other statewide initiatives. Participants also may use the "Kentucky Crafted"
logo, attend educational workshops, and receive technical assistance for
their business and craft.
Since 1981, the Craft Marketing Program's
mission is to develop the state's craft industry, support and empower
Kentucky artisans and craftspeople, create an economically viable environment
for craft entrepreneurs, preserve the state's craft traditions, stimulate
and support product development, and generate public awareness, public
support and public/private partnerships. It is a division of the Kentucky
Arts Council; Education, Arts, and Humanities Cabinet.
The Program provides assistance to
Kentucky residents, individuals, or groups wanting to develop as craft
professionals through economic opportunities and training, to other outside
entities (e.g., craft retailers, craft and art organizations, community
and government agencies), and the general public.
