(Frankfort, Ky.) -- The Kentucky Craft Marketing Program (KCMP) recently accepted 56 new craftspeople for participation in the Program at its annual jury session. An additional 12 craftspeople are expected to be included, after successful completion of the Program's jury mentoring program, making a total of 68 new juried participants in the Program. An applicant whose score falls within a few points of the qualifying score is paired with a juried participant mentor who will assist the applicant in understanding how to bring his/her work to the standards required by the CMP. After successfully completing the mentor program, and after the mentor has filed a successful "Mentor Completion Report" with the CMP, the applicant will be accepted into the juried portion of the CMP and granted all the benefits therein, without having to wait an additional year and rejurying. The 2003 session was conducted by a panel of in-state and out-of-state craft professionals. Out-of-state jurors included: Cease Giddings, Retailer, Folkworks, Evanston, Illinois; Mary Strope, Manager, Regional Craft Marketing, George Little Management, Inc., White Plains, New York; and Harry Hearne, President, Tennessee Association of Craft Artists, Murfressboro, Tennessee. In-state jurors included: Tim Glotzbach, Founding Director/Dean, Kentucky School of Craft, Hindman; Victoria Faoro, Executive Director/Buyer, Kentucky Artisans Center at Berea; Terry Fields, Berea College Craft Program Instructor, Berea, Kentucky; and Mary Kinney, Kentucky Collection Pilot Retailer, Mary Kinney Millinery, LaGrange, Kentucky. Entries were scored by jurors in three areas: design, technique, and originality or authenticity. Staff of the Kentucky Folklife Program provided expertise in terms of authenticity of traditional and folk crafts. New juried member Kendal Wise said, "The more I've learned about the opportunities available in your Program, the more excited I am about becoming a juried member. Marketing is essential to artists like myself, and I look forward to the benefits the KCMP can offer me in promoting my product." Juried members will have an opportunity to participate in wholesale and retail venues, such as the New York International Gift Fair; Kentucky Crafted: The Market; The Governor's Derby Day Celebration; The Kentucky Collection; and other statewide initiatives. Participants also may use the "Kentucky Crafted" logo and receive technical assistance for their business and craft. Congratulations to all of the new members! New Member Listing By County Allen
